Quick Tip
Methods for Straightening Gaskets For gaskets to seal properly, ripples or kinks must be removed. You can speed up the return to the original shape with the application of heat, such as: Immersing the gasket in 140 to 185F water for 15-20 minutes Applying heat from an electric hair dryer or heat lamp before and after installation. Care must be taken not to overheat, stretch, or melt the material. If climate permits, laying the gasket out flat in the sun, checking it often to avoid overheating or melting of the material .
